Title: Question about AT853/SP-CMC-4
Post by: lukpac on July 08, 2013, 01:08:17 PM
A year or two ago a friend of mine gave me her SP-CMC-4 mics that she had purchased back in 1999. They've been working great, but I'm a bit curious about their lineage. The info sheet with them states "based on the Audio Technica AT853 microphone capsule". Were they in fact that capsule with a different body? Mine have small alligator clips that snap directly into the body, which I haven't seen anywhere, suggesting lav mics.

One of these years I want to mod them to run off of phantom power...

I just took another look, and I *think* I may have answered my own question. I noticed that the alligator clips actually snap into a rubber sleeve that surrounds the body. Presumably that was added by The Sound Professionals? Is that what differentiated the SP-CMC-3 (just the AT853) from the SP-CMC-4 (with the rubber sleeve and clips)?
