hey friends...im looking for some alternatives to the supplied akg shocks that came with my 414s. one band needs replacing (which i think i can do myself), but since the cost to replace one shock mount is about 15-20% of the total cost of a *new* 414, i need to find a somewhat cheaper alternative.
any advice and guidance is appreciated.

The best shockmount for the 414 is the Rycote USM-L - no contest.

Careful - I thought the AT 8471 would be great for my 414's as well but it turned out to be just a bit too small for the width of the 414. I couldn't make it work without destroying the mounts so I ended up returning the 8471's.

Once you use the Rycote mount, you won't go back to anything else :).

Agreed ;D

At $120 each, I'm not sure that is the "cheaper alternative" the OP was looking for.
Looks like a great mic holder, like most of Rycote's stuff.

The rycote mounts are great, but not inexpensive compared to the AKG mounts. The akg h85 mounts come up fairly frequently on e-bay. I bought a pair on e-bay for @ $50 each for my C440b-uls pair. Work just fine and are low profile.

Well - I always consider it the "cheaper alternative" as it's better than the Neumann at a quarter of the price. ;D

No question that there are more expensive shocks out there than the Rycote. When I replaced the shock for my U87, I bought the Rycote mount. Very easy decision. It is a great shock and way cheaper than Neumann or Gefell. Comparably priced to a new AKG or Beyer LD shock, but a better shock.

yeah they are a tad too small...any other smaller in size alternatives? ive seen plenty of pictures with a simple mic clamp on the 414s, but cant seem to locate what i need...the8471s are *almost* right for me..
i dig the rycotes too..but im looking for a clamp vs a shockmout i guess
