The Tascam dr2d will do 4 channels and is very inexpensive. You might find a used Tascam 680 in your price range.

A used DR-680 would be a good option!

yes, dr680 is good and can found for a good price new now, but I've read about some issues and the DR-100 has issues with file error/write error et al.  Roland R26 has been reliable.  Haven't used the other's...  I wouldn't buy another Tascam product (dr60d included) unless they've addressed the file-error issues, other than that it's a good product.

Are you wanting tracks to record, then playback as you record more, or are you looking for 4-6 inputs?

A programmer is sent to the supermarket with instructions to "buy butter and if they have eggs then buy a dozen."

Returning with 12 butters, the programmer says, "they had eggs".

My vote goes to the R-26. I love mine, you can record 4 channels from external mics (2 from XLR mics, 2 from plug-in type mics) and 2 more from internals, batteries last for ages even on phantom (7-8 hrs min), great preamps, it's half the size of the DR680 and very reliable.
