Very nice! I like Fiio products. Looks like they beat Neil's Pono player to market...
doesn't look like it supports gapless playback tho . . .

I think it does actually. Seems to say so under main functions on then fiio site.

consensus is that it's too slow to sequentially load files without a 1/2 second gap -- but that the soon-to-be-released x5 may solve this problem.

I see. It us SUPPOSED to but there are bugs. Sounds like a faster processor might solve a lot of the sluggishness issues.
I'm really not up to speed on these things. I find the overall management experience of my apple products trumps the gains I might get from lossless mobile playback. But I keep an eye on them in case somebody hurdles the high bar.
So many of the features I don't care about but gapless playback is a deal breaker for sure.

FWIW, apple iphones/idevices will play lossless natively at up to 24/48 -- you just need to format convert flacs to apple lossless -- I've set up foobar2000 to do this for me as a 1 click process.

Sorry to say, I've been guilty of this, too.
I've been a very happy user of the FiiO E17 for awhile now and was interested in this X3 when I first heard rumblings about it months ago. Want to see what they improve with the X5.
I have an X3 with firmware 2.1 and it's gapless. There must have been a fix with newer firmware. A great unit at a great price. I don't see the point in spending $350 on an X5.

Actually It will do the 128 GB micro sd cards (just like my beloved rock boxed Sansa e280).
Grabbed an X3 and it does play shows with out track gaps!! Does anyone know how to keep the song and show info on the display screen. On mine it only pops up at the beginning of the song. I can't find a setting for it. Thanks

Sweet. I've been thinking I should get one of these to make it easier to sample my mixes on different playback gear (earbuds, car, non networked stereo, etc) prior to finalizing.
I like that is has a digi out I have it plugged in to the coax on my receiver. Great battery life as well. I just need to get a larger microsd card

I grabbed one when they were on sale at Adorama. Got a 64GB card cheap as well. Works reasonably well - the Apple interface is still better. Sounds great though. My Classic 160 is full and this provides expansion capability by substituting cards.
They have a new Fiio X1 for $99.99! Doesn't have the Digi output like the X3 and X5.

Nice!
I ordered one from Amazon. About a week's delay so there must be some level of demand for them. I already have an X3, which I like quite a bit, so I should be able to do an undisciplined comparison once I receive it. Allegedly, there is some difference in sound. I've done the firmware update on the X3, which makes it somewhat more user friendly. The interface/controls for the iPod are still much better than the X3's button arrangement, but given that I have primarily loaded shows and albums on the X3, and that I tend to play them in their entirety, that isn't much of a detriment. The X1 appears to have controls/interface that more closely mimics the iPod, so we will need to see how well that works once I get it. I have an iPod Classic 160 for comparison. The X3 does sound fantastic and it certainly plays more file formats. Price seems to be down somewhat as well for the X3. They were going for @$200, and now are $170 at Amazon Prime.
I just updated my X3 to FW 3.0 and while it does look nicer I still don't like the form factor/buttons on this thing. Clumsy at best. The X1 looks much more user friendly.
I'm not to bothered by the buttons of the X3 and I upgraded my firmware as soon as I bought it, but the fact that it only flashes the song tag at the beginning of each song bothers me more. I tried to fix this, but have not found a solution.
Firmware 3.34 has been released. The one known issue is ID3 not displaying correctly
I have an extra Brand new Fiio L8 Stereo Audio Cable 3.5mm to 3.5mm (Right Angle Connectors)

Get ready folks... Fiio is about to release an update x3 model. The pictures I have seen it looks similar to an x5 but with only one microsd slot. It is taller and thicker than an x1.

So once the new X3 starts shipping, the original X3 should come down even more in price while they're still available. Probably not the most efficient way to go, but two new X3's would probably be quite a bit less money than one X5.

V1. Awesome! Thanks, Brian. :)
I've used the crap out of my V1. Wish i had V2 or even the X5 but until this one dies I'll keep using it as my main player. Hasn't given me the slightest bit of trouble in almost two years of strong daily use.
I scored an X5 (v1) on eBay this week. 256Gb storage. Oooooh baby! Gotta love it! ;D
Anyone interested in an Ipod Touch Gen 4 (64GB)?

^ Wow. Fantastic score!
New X3 version I owner here.
I'm at a loss as how to get my macbook to recognize the X3. I'm on an older ( 2008 ) macbook with OS Lion 10.7.5. I'd like to start using this from a fresh start and delete the files that were in the internal memory. Any suggestions? I have a 64gb card that formatted just fine in the X3.
What app are you using to manage your files?

My first issue was resolved with another cable. Tried connecting on three different MacBooks.
Seems like a lot of work, but might be worth it in the end.
I finally played the X5 (V1) in the car today. I have Sirius/XM, so running a portable audio player has never really surfaced.
I'm totally impressed. I ran it through a Kenwood DPX500BT and it was a perfect match, sound wise, IMO. The headphone jack sounded much better than the line-out. fyi I can't see myself using a phone over this player, unless I'm in a pinch. I stand by that last sentence......
