Title: Tascam display screen problem. Need advice.

Hi

I've recently bought a 2nd hand Tascam DR-05 as a glorified dictaphone for my dad. The problem is when I switch it on the screen illuminates orange but no information is presented. No menus, levels etc. The screen goes to sleep after about 5 seconds. After I tried pressing buttons and found the red light flashes when I hit record but I can't actually see what I'm doing.

Hold isn't on. I've taken out the MicroSD. Changed batteries.

Can I do anything to fix this or is it screwed plain and simple?

I had a similar thing happen with a brand new DR100mkii.  The unit was recording still but nothing displayed.  Fortunately I was able to exchange it for another and all has been well since.  Based on my experience it is screwed.  Sorry.  Hope you're not stuck with it.  See if Tascam can help you out.

Ah, okay. Just as I thought. Thank you!

I've contacted Tascam about it too just in case so awaiting their advise.

I bought it 2nd hand in the U.S from amazon so it can be returned. Maybe if its not too expensive the seller will compensate me for getting it repaired.
