Title: IMO the perfect Schoeps Body
Post by: H₂O on August 29, 2013, 10:18:30 PM
Here is a pic of the CMMT30AF series (my fav Schoeps design) - center with XLR surrounded by Sogies (Yuck) - Schoeps only made about 200-300 of these

Nice! I LOVE tonedeafs mk241>cmmt setup. He runs vintage schoeps while I run modern schoeps 8) the perfect setups IMO!

So what makes these particular bodies your favorite?

I like these bodies because:
- They run the m221 caps (nickel and gold sputtered diaphragms 'c' series)
- The design uses a DC coupled approach allowing for only a 2 conductor + shield active solution - the Colette and CMMT 30 F use a DC Decoupled approach - I do not know if RF Rejection is worse with the AF's though
- From a idealistic point of view I like idea of an "Extension" cable vs an "Active" Cable (i.e. Schoeps Colette series) or "Active Capsule w/ Extension" cable (i.e. Neumann km100 series) - The FET and components are in the top part or head which is detactable and extenable via an optional cable from the amplifier section - It's very simplistic

I do like the m221's as well but the design is much different in that it's a Tube design and output xformers.

The CMMT's w/ the Gold Sputtered caps sound VERY similar to the modern CMC setups - I need to play around with the older caps to see if the nickel versions make that much of a diff (they all sound pretty warm at home) - I will this fall as I have mk241f's, mk241c's, m934f's and m934c's.

Vintage Schoeps ROCK!!!

I have a leger that shows that the one of the first batch of  CMMT AF's (SN 892 - 1044) was delivered around Feb 1974 - CMMT 30 F's sn's go up at least 863 - So even though the AF's where designed around 1970-71 they where not in full production until 73-74 - it's hard to say if the AF's are a further refinement to the design that became the Colette series or not

Nice bro! I appreciate the vintage schoeps because without them, the actives may never have happened! I LOVE the modern schoeps too tho 8)

I can understand that one. What's the upper end of the distance range for that sort of cabling? Similar to the KC?

I don't know fer sure but at least 5m and I would at least 10-15m (prob the same as the KC series)
