Title: GOOD SOURCE FOR DPA 4060'S?
Post by: BlindGuyEars on September 22, 2013, 02:10:35 PM
I want to switch from DPA 4061's to 4060's, as I am taping quieter shows now.  I cannot afford new 4060's though. Is there a reliable source of used 4060's out there?

Is it still the case that many end up on eBay from Broadway? Have any of you had good experiences buying those cast-offs?

7 years and still going strong on a pair from Broadway, mine were used gently by Tommy Tune ;D

Not 4060's but I scored a pair of 4061s on ebay earlier this year and they've been fine the few times I've gone  >:D.

There was an auction for an instrument mic kit which normally has just a single mic plus all the accessories (mounts, windscreens, xlr p48 adapter, etc) but this one had two mics, tho just one of everything else. Got it for just over $500. Not an awesome deal but compared to the new price I was satisfied.

So, I look now and then and there are certainly ones that seem obviously well used but it's worth watching out for a while and taking a chance based on my experience. Maybe look for signs they were used in a studio or for instruments rather than on people on stage which seems to really abuse them.
