Try here first.  Really, the possibilities are endless, and for $1000 you can have a really nice rig, considering you already own a D8.

If I were you, I think I'd get a UA5 and some AKGs...

Those items in the yard sale that kindguy posted are a good deal, nice prices on all, especially that ad-20. So buy that and then sell me those hyper caps.   ;)

Used UA-5 $200 if you're patient.  You may have to do the digi-mod yourself.
Make your own mic cables from Markertek $40
I'm not sure what you would need to go into a D8 from the UA-5
Light Stand (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3806632184&category=30080) - $55, this is the one I have.  I have yet to actually run it but it feels nice and solid.  You will more than likely need to buy a 3/8" to 5/8" adapter for $5.

$300 for all of that.

I spent $200 for new Shure vert bar, mounts, and windscreens.  That's a little overboard.  You could do well with
AKG t-bar $25
Shock Mount Options (http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?board=14;action=display;threadid=2457)
Windscreen Options (http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?board=14;action=display;threadid=2459)

You will then obviously need mics, and that should round out your package.  You may be able to find AKG 391's for around $500.  AKG 481's can be had for around $800 but that would put you out of your price range.  There's also Core Sound Studio Projects C4's (I think I got that right) - $300 for a new matched pair.  Do a search for superlux, they go for around $200 new with a bar, windscreens, and mounts included.  I don't think anyone has had anything bad to say about them.

One last thing.  You will need battery power for your UA-5.  I got two 3000 mah batts with smart charger from batterspace for $60 (I think-check my post in the power forum), and the parts for the DIY power cable (archive section) are about $20 at radio shack.
