the ck1x is an active only cardioid capsule originally intended to be ran with only 460 bodies using the mk46 cable
there are some now that can use a modified cable and a PFA or Tinybox and no bodies
the ck1 is a cardioid capsule originally used with the 451 and 452 bodies
it can also be used with 460 and 480 bodies by using the a60 thread adapter

^ Only slight correction (though probably just pedantry) is that the "active" cable with the CK 1X is totally custom. It has no part of the old mk46.

With the mk46 cable what's a good price for a pair?

$500-$600 is fair but I seen them go for less

Here are the technical specs

One thing that always held me back from going down the CK1x path...when I asked Richard Land (http://www.akgmicrepair.com/) about service of these systems the CK1 is repairable...the CK1x is not...now that would not be such a big issue but we are talking about equipment that is pushing 20 years old if not more...something about the CK1x is a electret element (no longer in stock) where as the CK1 element is in stock

Right--the CK 1 is a long-established, traditional, DC-polarized condenser capsule, while the CK 1X was an electret. So if you wanted discreet mounting, you gave up some sound quality.
That probably wouldn't be as much of a compromise today as it was then--the best electrets of recent years are excellent. But at the time no serious engineer would choose an electret if a "true" condenser was available.
Of course technically an electret is a kind of quasi-permanently polarized condenser, so in that sense they're as "true" as any other.

Thanks for asking and the answers. I didn't know either.

I just purchased a pair of ck1x caps along with the active cables to go along with my c460b bodies. I also have a pair of ck61 capsules. What is the difference if any in the ck1 capsule and the ck61 capsule? Do they have the same frequency response and are they consistent in the way they sound? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
