I've searched though the various posts here at taperssection for experiences using earplugs at loud shows. I haven't really found any specific recommendations.
Personally, I've tried foams, silicone, cotton balls, etc. when I forgot my regular plugs at home!
There has to be something better so I started looking around and the plugs by EarPeace seem to be pretty good based on newspaper, magazine and user reviews. They are supposed to bring down sound level but still allow the high fidelity of the music to pass through.
I ordered a couple of pairs and while I'm waiting for them to come in - just wondering if anyone else is using them and how you like them.

I love the regular size etymotic plugs. Maintain the full sound but reduce the volume. I would be interested to hear how the ones you ordered sound.

I haven't tried any, but do some searching for Surefires. There are several different models available and someone here may have experience with which may be better. I've lost or can't find my specific bookmark on these. But maybe this will help you find something you'll like.

I can vouch for the Ety's - you hear everything just at a safer volume.

just to clarify, the old "regular" is now the large
And what was the small/child/baby blue is now regular or standard
The old ones didnt come with a neck cord either, the new ones do
I recently got 5 pairs for $36 shipped on ebay

I use the sure fire ep3 and they are the best I have found, pretty comfortable, though nothing to me is comfortable.

I like the hunting earplugs that WalMart sells. They have a cord attaching the two plugs, and cost like $3 MAX :)

I'm with Bean on this too...
JMO, but I find that if I put in the earplugs before the band takes the stage and the crowd is going nuts (maybe 10min before show) my ears seem to adapt to the sound of the room and I really feel like I'm not missing much in the sense of sound. Barely remember I have them in till a buddy or two make fun of me for having them in at setbreak... :hmmm: LOL
