Title: PCM-M10 and D-50--are remotes interchangeable?
Post by: earmonger on January 11, 2014, 05:30:04 PM
An idle thought: Just wondering whether the D-50 remote, the RMPCM1 , and the PCM-M10 remote, RM-PCM001, can also control the other recorder. Anyone have both?

I have both recorders and the M10 remote works with the D50.

Don't know if the reverse is true because I don't have the D50 remote.

Dont forget guys, when using the remote, you can still hit STOP while the recorder is on HOLD ;)

You say that like it's a bad thing. :)

Hold disables the buttons on the unit so you can keep it out of sight.  It's not really Hold but a transfer of control to the remote, as the remote  takes over start, pause, track-mark and stop. All good with me--with the way the buttons work, requiring a long press, you would really have  a hard time accidentally stopping the unit, and if you did you could immediately start it again.

People also worry about the input volume not being disabled by Hold, but unless you are keeping the unit in a tight jeans pocket that knob will not move without conscious intent. And in that tight jeans pocket, friction against the back of the PCM-M10 is much more likely to switch from Manual to Auto Level--which is a problem--so...don't keep it in a tight jeans pocket.

For my purposes, Sony did this right. No one's demanding you use the remote if you want to leave it locked down on Record.

I agree about the gain dial! I have screwed up a couple times from moving my recorder in/out of my bag for transfers, i have moved the dial to 10 and still gotten a great recording. And the M10 is the ONLY piece of gear I remove from my bag. Everything else stays in the bag 100% of the time. I try my best to remember to check and make sure the m10s gain dial is at 4 before every show :)
