Quite a while ago I accidentally put tension on a USB cable while it was plugged into my R-44. The jack on the R-44 "sttretched" somewhat and while the recorder senses the USB and shows as much on the display there is no signal sent to my PC.
I have been taking out the SD cards since but it is tiresome and I prefer to simply plug a cable in for transfers.
Does anyone have an idea of what I can do to remedy this outside of sending it to Roland for repairs?

Have you tried another USB cable in case it is a break in one of the internal cables?
If it's the socket itself I think that it would be a return to Roland for repair.

This has been going on for a couple of years so I have tried many different USB cables. The one hooked up now works fine for other devices but not the R-44.

Roland will take forever.. The part can usually be purchased from Digikey and any good repair shop that can do surface mount repairs should be able to fix this. I could do this job in my sleep. If you have time and the knowledge to take it apart snap me a picture of the USB connector I am sure I can figure out what the part number is and where to get it. Then take the part and the machine to a good repair shop a roland authorized repair center should be able to do it. Also if this is on a separate circuit board you might be able to order the part from Roland. And just plug it in. The service contact number is in the link below.
