Hello everyone! I'm new here but used to taped a ton in the 90s. Decided to get back in the game. I recently got some new gear and had a question. Should I have low cut on or off on a HD-P2? I just did Trey in Denver with some Oktavas > HD-P2 with it on cause it seemed too much (maybe the Oktavas couldn't handle it). Bought some other gear since then and I'm gonna be running AKG 483 > Apogee mini me> HD-P2. Eventually gonna get a SD pre, either the 302 or 442. Assuming the mini-me is passing a digital signal to the hdp2, the hdp2 will be acting as a bit bucket and the low cut filter would be bypassed. Directly answering your question, I prefer to record without filters/etc. and address issues if/as necessary in post. If the mics are distorting from the bass, running a low cut filter won't remove the distortion

Def OFF - you can easily roll-off bass in post to taste, but you can't easily or transparently add it back

I doubt the Oktavas would distort at a concert SPL. I have a pair of Oktava MK-012s, I use in the studio sometimes. They are great on some applications. I insert the -10dB pad if I'm close miking a cymbal or something, but they should have no issues recording below 125dB, which would be painful to our ears.
Like the rest suggested, I'd leave any filtering off and filter in post.
