I currently run a cj pv-12 with my McCormack DNA 0.5 with soon to be MIT Term 3s into B&W cdm7nts. Of those that have knowledge in this area, I would like to know of other low-cost/high quality pre amps. I also need a d>a as well and would love to kill 2 birds with one stone. I used to have a lucid 9624 d>a and it didn't do it for me, wish it did.

glad to hear!!
i find that b&w sounds warm, especially in the midrange...silky smooth.
i paired mine with the Sunfire Theater Grand II pre > Audio Research D130. the analog stage of the Sunfire is quite nice and smooth for an a/v pre. that's the main reason i got it.
one of these days, i'll upgrade to some tubes just for music listening and keep the a/v pre for my video/tv/dvd.

trey, if i come down to Mississippi (i think thats where you are) in the coming week or two (im interviewing for a job in Jackson) i can probably bring my AMC tube pre with me for you to take a listen to.
yes I live in Jackson
ok lemme find out what ive got coming up and ill keep you informed :-) ill probably drive down so bringing it wouldnt be a problem
where are you interviewing, selfishly I will pull strings to help you if I can. Need more ts members here.
hehehe im interviewing at the Institute for Southern Jewish Life. It's for an Education Fellowship. Honestly, I'd be surprised if they didn't offer it to me.
so will you be temporarily locating in Jackson if you do get the job?
is it possible to thread hijack your own thread?
hehehe if i get the job ill be moving to jackson, ill be gone 2 weekends a month for travel, but ill be in Jackson the rest of the time
Trey,
I don't know what prompted you to trade out the audioquest cables for those MITs.. I used to run MIT term. 2's with my CDM-9s and they SUCK life out of the music big time. :twocents:
Oh, and BTW, I've got a Krell Showcase I could bring over if you want to hear it. The D>A is absolute reference quality, but I doubt it would be what you're looking for since its a pre/pro and has all the DTS, digital decoding crap
Trey - I'm selling by Bel Canto to finance a V3, Jonny has the right of first refusal but if he doesn't want it $500 takes it.

I still have my vampire wires, will compare and see which I prefer.

yeah but you need a pre behind it no?
Tim & Trey, can I get to CO (on thursday evening) and decide by the end of the weekend ?
sure thing. I'll be in Vegas on your second trip out but if you haven't decided yet I'll leave it with JBK. I'm not in a big hurry on this one Jonny...
hey I dont even want it if I can't run it as a pre

just saw that! oops :D
so that means I need a pre in front correct?
yep.
it's a very simple little box, no power switch even. 1 coax rca in, 1 optical in, l/r rca out.
hey Tim, will it pick from the optical or the coax which to pass signal through- so masically could i have my cd transport and my dvd player both plugged in? (dvd has optical out, cd has coax out)

yep. just plug em both in and your set!
Tim, what is your playback system right now as it stands with the bel canto?
Trey wins!
Jonny,
Sony CD Player
Tascam DA-20mkII
Bel Canto DAC-1
B&W 602.5's
Paradigm PDR-8
NAD 370 Integrated
Synergistic Research cables and interconnects
I like it alot but right now I'm going to get more bang for my buck out of my recording rig. This thing was $1200+ new and the used prices dropped when they released the DAC-2 which does 24/192 upsampling, the DAC-1 is only 24/96.
not that i want to talk you out of it, but the dac-1 can be upgraded to the dac-2 for 500 dollars (which is what most likely id do within 6 mo time)
yeah I know, that's a great deal!
this is actually a dac-1.1 as it has had the power supply upgrade.
the only reason I pm'd you about it was because I knew you'd be out here... saves on shipping costs and worries. No pressure though, think about it for awhile.
i got the chance to listen to one not too long ago, my only complaint is its odd size. id rather it be a 1RU piece of gear than that block, but hey for 500 for a top quality DA im not complaining :-)
it is small enough to tuck away just about anywhere... I don't have rack mounted gear and needed something I could just stick in the corner.
Trey, try a Benchmark DAC-1, you can use it as a pre-amp b/c it has a analog vollume. I run mine directly into my amp. I run my DAT, CD transport & DVD player into it. You can select three digital inputs & the convertor is great.
