Title: Tascam DR-05 unattended / scheduled recording
Post by: gltape on April 24, 2014, 05:04:05 AM
Hello,

can someone please tell if Tascam DR-05 supports unattended / scheduled  recording, eg:

Set the device to start recording at midnight and stop at 06:00 A.M automatically, without human intervention.

Thanks

No, sorry, there's no timer facility.

I don't understand why some manufacturers do not include so basic and useful features...

In a different thread, you mention the Olympus WS-832 has the timer/unattended recorder feature.  Anyone know of other recorders (current or past models) that have this feature?

Correction: it seems that Olympus has removed this feature from newer models, as there is no mention of this function on WS-832 manual.
I'm awaiting confirmation from Olympus support.

Anyone know of other recorders (current or past models) that have this feature?

I know for sure that the older Olympus VN-2100PC has the timer feature, because it's the model that I want to replace.

There seems to be a differentiation in features between products aimed at dictation use versus basic music recording.  I suspect the general expectation is that there could be such variations in levels in recording music that no one really expects to use the DR-05 unattended.

I have one of the older Olympus dictation recorders.  It runs forever on a set of batteries.  Very compact.  Very good at recording whatever spoken words are present.  I wouldn't use it to record music, but if I want to record what someone says, I'd lean towards the Olympus.
