I've searched around and found these http://www.alfacase.com/#!mic-tube/c21jb , but I was wondering if anyone out there has some creative ideas for an alternative or has come across a good solution for a carrying case for shotgun mics?
I saw the cigar caddy idea for regular sized mics - that's a good one.
Just need something shotgun sized… Tube, case, or otherwise….
Thanks!

What about using color coded Klein tool pouches via Home Depot, get some foam/egg crate from a local craft store........flame away with my bad idea ;).

There's a great thread on GS about this:

And for a simple shotgun tube without the DIY:

My buddy using AKG CK-69 ULS's uses these: http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/storage/file-cabinets/blue-print/telescoping-document-tube-charltube-28-43-long-x-35-diameter-black?infoParam.campaignId=T9F&gclid=CLXx6-SzssUCFU0XHwodHSsAGA
currently $19 each on that site.

Just travel with the windscreens on. It'll take up less room in your bag. Most solutions I tried for the CP4 caps were way to bulky and often needed a separate bag just to carry them. Or a stand bag. Even tried the PVC route with end caps, but it looked too much like a pipe bomb. My first pair I just used the boxes they came in, but I'm guessing you don't have them.

Flambeau has a shotgun case that'll work, only $20 ;D

It's going to look like I'm either packing in a real shotgun (digi-gal ;)), or a pipe bomb.
I went the DIY route and got some PVC pipe and caps (pipe bomb). The CP-4's fit in very snugly with the foam wind screens on them. So well, in fact, that I needed a way to get them out without stressing/tearing the windscreens, so I used some of the really thin plastic produce bags from the grocery store. There's enough bunched up plastic at the end to grab ahold of and pull the mic out of the PVC tube.
Cost for each case came to under $5.00
I think they will be very well protected - now we'll just see how many security people get freaked out over this ;D

Nice job! If you get stuck at the door, give me a call and I'll come vouch for you in holding ;D
That said, your shotguns are probably the best choice for recording at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland!

excellent idea. probably going to be dicey while going through airport security though! 8)

Clear tubing would help avoid some tense situations. You really don't want some security people going ape on you before its too late for them to figure out its just a mic case.
