I just got ADK A-51 TL's. When would you run figure 8 pattern & in what mic configurations?
Try these on for size.. congrats on the new mics!

Wooo hooo new toys! The Oade is a good info site but this time it lack photos. This is usually the hardest thing to get right w/ LD mics. The CAPSULES (peek inside w/ a light to make sure) need to be one over the other vertically. It takes time to get that shit straight but you will be rewarded w/ a fat sound (Blumlien is best for outside, M/S is great for anywhere).
have fun

ADK A51TL's in M/S config. (the big silver mics, if you don't know what they look like)
Thanks for the help guys. I'll be trying these new configs out. The upgrade to TL's wasn't hard. I already had the LE's, and new ADK made some fine mics. It's so nice not to have to deal with caps to change patterns.
Hi Swanny and All,
Congrats on the new toys. I'm looking forward to getting some ADK's in here and giving them a run. They are quickly getting a really good rap.
I think Craig is right on with his application of M/S on stage.
However, I have not been very psyched with my results using an M/S setup for anything further back than about 20 rows (ie. FOB). With one capsule covering the off axis information (ie. the S pointing at left and right sides of the room), recordings can become quite boomy and distant as you matrix the capsules to form a wide stereo image.
Of course, if you have mics that can do M/S and a pre-amp that supports it as well, it is really fun to experiment.
Happy Recording,
Marc
