alright, i have to get my d-8 fixed sometime soon, before the end of the summer, but i was wondering, i know i have to call paul, BUT, once i send it to him, could he hold onto it untill i can pay it off,
what im asking is, could i send it to him soon, and pay it off slowly till the end of the summer, so i can resell???
i would have it paid off by august prolly......i just dont wanna wait till i get the $$ and send it.....
thanks,
bean

i doubt it- its a business man. gotta just pay it right when its done.

i got ya jonny, i just thought i recall someone saying that, guess not
thats cool, looks like its waiting till the fall
-
i'd call him before givin' up hope. he seems like a very nice guy the few times i've talked to him.
-
thanks bro, in that short amount of time, its sold tho;-)
im just gonna pick up another dat in a year or so for transfers;-)
-
then just get a da-20mkii for like the 120-150 they go for on ebay

jonny, you just made me feel a LOT better about getting rid of my d-8, i hadnt even thought about getting a home unit
are they that cheap??? also, how do the heads compare hr wise??to say a small portable
i have about 150+ tapes at least that i really wanna transfer, the others i dont care as much about
-
you'll definately do better with a home unit than putting all that wear on a D8.
I'd go with a DA-20/DA-20MKII or a D5... some sonys are bad news from what I've heard

stay away from the R300, unless they had the transport replaced already by Paul at Prodigial.... if you find a good deal on a R500, jump on it, it is a workhorse

i had two da20mkII is sold here a while back. used them alot to trade dats and do transfers. never had a single major issue with the heads. did 90's pretty well too, something i heard the r300's don't do too well. i have two d8s--one for recording and i'm thinking the other for listening/transfers.
its a pity though--i have tons of dats--hundreds--maybe over a thousand--i've never counted. they're all over the place. some are gems and rare sources. many are from myself or tapers i know and traded with. i don't have the time to transfer all these--nor the desire to, but at the same time, i'd hate to "lose" these. gotta keep at least one dat deck around.

thats my thought exactly 70*

just for clarifications sake, the R300 does fine with 90s once the transport is replaced...I have had 0 problems with mine since then.
