Title: connection of a powered microphone to XLR
Post by: seashore on August 28, 2015, 07:01:48 AM
Hi. I would like to use the preamp of a Fostex FR2-LE to amplify the signal produced by a self-powered microphone. I normally use the unit to phantom power my NT5s, but wonder if the preamp would work if I connected a pair of self-powered microphones (i.e. microphone powered by a battery box which can only run off plug-in power) to the Fostex, using a female 3.5mm jack to 2 male XLR lead set-up. I cannot myself see why this would not work but more experienced tapers may know otherwise. Thanks.

That will work.  Turn off the phantom power on the Fostex.  Bridge pin 1 and pin 3 on the XLRs.

Thanks. There's actually a similar question posed elsewhere on this forum, except that someone had I think to point out the need for a battery box. Sorry to post anew!
