Title: Bad news: One of my actives died
Post by: Matt Quinn on April 20, 2004, 03:26:14 PM
I run 460's with actives, and during the first of 4/17 one of 'em died.
I don't suppose anybody has anyideas where I could get something like this fixed or how much it would cost, but if you do, please let me know. It sucks even more because I can't run my caps without the actives (the caps have a lemo connection and don't screw on to the bodies), so I am currently mic-less. :(

I know you can send capsules and mic bodies back to AKG for repair.  I would assume they could also repair the cable.

Is it making noise or is it completely dead?

Joe

Thanks man. Yeah I can definitely hear Hank Hill saying that to someone in the section.
;D  "Minidiscs, I tell you what!!"

I found the link to AKG's repair procedure.

Hey bro, what died.... the cap or the extension cable (or mic body)...swap 'em out to find out.  The cable can be fixed by anyone good at micro soldering iffin' it is at the lemo end.  The mic body end may be a little easier????  An ohm meter could be useful too.  This would be a good time to sorten up the cables if you want (personally I'd keep 'em the orig length for times when you need the extra length).

hank: uh hih-hih. yip. if i hadn't gone into the field of propane and propane accesories, i'd be talkin' to ya about the wonders of [hank's foreign word accent] ATRAC type r, i'll tell you hwhat. uh hih-hih.

bill: i used to have a minidisc recorder! yeeah. but i lost it when lenore left me. i really miss that minidisc. those little discs could get eighy minutes apiece. but i couldn't afford those, i only got the 74 minute. [sniffle] i miss it so much. minidisc. lenore. i miss you, lenore. lenore, why did you leave me?

dale: oh, buck up, bill. all handheld personal music systems are supported by the united states government. losing that "miniature diiisc" recorder was the best thing that happened to you. you want the government knowing what you listen to?

bill: [sniffle] no.

dale: dang right, you don't. i don't need a piece of spy equipment left over from the cold war to keep me company. [embarrassed] i sing when i'm alone. i... i sing to myself, i tell you hwaht. mmhmm.

It's definitely a cable- swapped everything out til I had it isolated. But I know *nothing* about the internal workings of these things, so at this point I was going to just call AKG & see if & how much it would be to fix it..

if you definately know it's a cable you should be able to take it to a solder tech (say at a guitar shop) and have them check it out.  Take both cables so the know what a good one is suppose to "look" like. OBTW I know the lemo end is able to be disassembled but can you take apart the other end.
You also said it gets static when you move it (or said something like that)...can you isolate which end (assuming that the cable has not been crimped somehwere in the middle) is bad?  If it's the lemo end ...the techs should be able to help you out.....I can't remember how the mic body end is assmebled....

I can check mine at home if you want to know the wiring of 'em...+ I can see about the body end assembly.

pm me with you results as I forget which threads I read and re-stumbled on this one......
