Yep...i'm a gear whore...or at least becoming one ;D
So, i own a njb3 and a M1, ad20, mv100 and i have my modded at853/943 xlr mics incoming. How in the hell do i connect my mv 100 and ad20? I see how the ad20 gets plugged into the nomad via the optical out but i have no clue how to connect the mv100 to the ad20, the mv100 has a line out, rca out and the xlr ins, the ad20 has a spdif out and optical out and the xlr mics in and...some sort of 3 pin port on the other side (it's not labeled So...what do i need to get all these boxes working? Thanks you gear whores!
1/8" stereo (m) > dual xlr (m)
or rca > xlr
all unbalanced of course
you don't need the mv100 in front of the ad20, the ad20 has gain on it already. you need to change out the mv100 for a phantom power unit
lol, that too

huh? i thought the mv-100 was a phantom power unit, did i miss something? Ok, quick question: the ad-20 is a adc right? the MV-100 is a preamp? If the mv-100 is not a phantom power unit, then what the heck is and then what the heck does the mv-100 do exactly? Man, i am soooo con-a-fused :o
What the heck does unbalanced mean?

so i would run rca out from the mv 100 to xlr in on the ad-20 and have the mics plugged into the mv-100 via the mic inputs?
AD-20 is a Pre & AD converter. The Mv100 is a preamp. I'm not sure if it had phantom power or not.
No need for both Pre's. You need some phantom power.

Keep your head up......Getting close
The MV does have Phantom power

Could he run the MV with the lowest gain poss & keep the gain low on the ad-20?
That may be a fix if you have something coming up. I'd sell the MV & get a phantom unit. Also it'll put 100 bucks or so back in your pocket.

What phantom unit do you suggest? I havent taped a show with the mv100 just yet, lol. I guess i'll learn fast enough if its not for me, but i'm always curious to read opinions if they think i'll be better off with something else.
technically you can run at853 > mv-100 > ad-20 > jb3 but there are two preamps in that setup
if you want to drop the mv-100 for a straight powering box, the ps-2 is popular.
if you want to get rid of the ad-20, you can just use the adc in the jb3.
or dump the ad-20 and get a different adc, like an sbm-1
PS-2! I have seen a number of them for $100 used...
prolly works nicely with an ad-20!
Does the PS-2 have the same options as the MV-100 (in regards to bass filter) and rca jacks? See, i'm still a bit confused because i always thought the ad-20 was strictly a adc and the mv-100 was a preamp. So, the ad-20 provides phantom (48V) power?
buy a ps2 and give me the mv100 :P ;)

The PS-2 is Phantom power only. The AD-20 Is a Preamp & AD converter all in one unit. The AD-20 will not provide Phantom power.
The PS-2 has XLR inputs & XLR outputs. You'll need a pair of XLR interconnects to run the PS-2 > AD-20. Just like a short pair of mic cables.
Thanks so much guys, i jumped on bhphoto and ordered some cables to make this rig work, i'll give it a whirl this Spring and Summer and see if its worth it. Too bad the AD-20 does not provide phantom power to avoid one less piece of gear in the chain. Worse comes to worse, i'll ditch the mv-100 and get a ps-2, thanks again!
sound pro also offers a 2 channel 48V phantom box from samson for $60
i believe the ps-2 actually has a pigtail connector with the xlr outs on it...and it is the perfect combo with the ad-20 as they are built very similarly and by the same manufacturer.
so you would just need your normal mic cables > ps-2 > ad-20 > jb3.
if the mv100 has phantom, which it apparently does, then run it at the lowest gain possible into your ad-20 and use the gain on the ad-20 i guess.

Sounds like a plan, i'll keep the option open for the PS-2 down the line tho, of course, id' like to have all my gear to be as stealthable as possible, thanks again for clarification guys.
