hey all
just wondering if you had to choose between hyper caps or omni caps only ( no cards ) which one would you choose?
Which one is best for all around? I know its summer and the omni's will be nice, but will that be total shit in the winter when i am in the worst of worst sounding clubs?
I also tape some vocal groups and jazz chambers...
any good ideas?

In a quiet enviroment, which I assume the vocal and jazz stuff would be, I love omnis. Don't have any myself but always like Mel's DSM 6 S/L tapes.
-
I like my Hypers for the shit clubs/venues around here but Depends totally on what you are taping. I dont have experience with jazz so i cant give any more input than that.

i love omnis, and since im pretty sure you are talking about neumann caps, i like the omnis more than i like the hypers on those.
-
if you only had to pick one I'd go Hypers..can be used in/outdoors good/bad venues....omni's will not make you happy in a bad sounding room w/ mucho chatter.
Maybe you can borrow someone's omni's for a shitty indoor show and see for yourself????? What are your mics now or what are you talking about getting?
peace

only 1? definitely hypers. its tough to place omnis indoors.
-
it is tough but when ya do it right... not much better

Of the two choices I would go hyper, the times when you can use omnis at shows without picking up way too much of the crappy sounding room or people chatting away are pretty few and far between (at least for the shows I go to).
But if I could only have one cap it would be a cardioid, IMHO cards are the most versatile pattern.
Take care,
Ben
