Title: Dynamount - remote control microphone placement tool
Post by: goodcooker on September 15, 2016, 07:30:52 AM

This is pretty slick. Can't really see myself using it in the field, it's probably not tough enough to take on the road, but in the studio it would be really useful.

I long ago though about using a dual channel version of something like this to simultaneously vary the microphone angle and spacing for a stereo pair.  Doing that with those two parameters linked, based upon the Stereo Zoom relationships for the polar pattern, one could input the desired Stereo Recording Angle and then sweep the mic pair through all spacing/angle variations which achieve that SRA.   Would be really interesting to listen to that seamless change, effectively providing a real-world, real-time, powered stereo zoom of all equivalent SRA options.  And, if quiet enough in operation, it could make for an interesting stereo effect while recording!

Well, there's this motorized stereo array where you enter your paramaters (NOS, ORTF, AB 60, etc.) and it switches between omnis / cards and positions automatically:

super cool !
but I'm sure it costs more than my entire rig.

Yeah, I remember that one.  And I'd also seen a few similar apparatuses.  Almost there, but they need to operate smoothly and quietly enough and keep the spacing / angle relationship correct at all times.  ..and then be built in such a way that it doesn't look like an erector set garage project!

It makes me wonder about linking that kind of dynamic audio stereo zoom to the video zoom of a camcorder for a long distance slow zoom in/out at the start and end of an audience perspective vid.

Hmmm, if I can miniaturize this and invisibly incorporate it into the telescopic TV antenna rig, I could hit a fest, send down the nephew to erect the stand, then tweak the mic setup from back at camp on a phone app..  or from the couch back at home!
