Title: UA-5 ? about RCA out
Post by: kindms on April 30, 2004, 12:38:05 PM
If running XLR -> UA-5 and then out RCA does this by pass the A/D in the UA-5 ?

or is it going A/D D/A out ?

I am doing a matrix tonight.
I will have board in on my ua-5 XLR's. A 2nd rig is running (#2)AKG -> UA-5. I want to run RCA out from rig #2 in to my RCA's and do it on the fly. The reason for my question is will i be limited to the bit depth set by rig#2 or if it does by pass the A/D set it to what i want on my UA-5.

Any help is much appreciated

OK looking at the schematic on the UA-5 it seems that the feed coming from rig#2 is gonna be ADDA -> rca ->.

If i set a higher bit depth than the feed will it be audible ?

Just run RCA's in from SBD and mics in via XLRs into one UA-5 and your done.....

normally i would but there will e only 1 set of AUD mics and he wants to run AUD only. I figured i would do this as an experiment. I guess if i just set the bit depth to what he does I won't run into an issue

Once the AUD UA-5 converts D>A to output via the RCAs, the AUD UA-5's bit-depth and sample rate becomes a non-issue for you.  You can set your SBD/mix UA-5's bit-depth and sample rate to whatever you like, regardless of the bit-depth and sample rate on the AUD UA-5.

In other words, the AUD UA-5's bit-depth and sample rate will impact the quality of the analog signal you're receiving out of the RCAs (audible or not, I don't know), but you yourself can run whatever bit-depth and sample rate you want on your SBD/mix UA-5.

thanks. Of course now the whole evenings setup has changed since my post. looks i will probably just run AUD now.
