Title: mount bar for neumann actives?
Post by: Lil Kim Jong-Il on May 03, 2004, 11:10:16 AM
I'm looking for some kind of low profile mounting option for neumann actives that is like the schoeps bars people use.   Hopefully something that will slide into a A20S shock mount so I can run DIN or wider.

Anyone know where I can get one or if there are DIY plans floating around?

I think that Kwonfidelity makes/made something like you are asking?

FWIW, the stock STH-100 ORTF/XY bar may be used for DIN as well.

I've run the XY bar "backwards" but thought that the seperation was not wide enough to be DIN.

If you are even slightly handy,.... get some aluminum stock and make a bar.
I made one with 3/8" holes at 85cm, 170cm, and 200cm, (holes for 3/8-16 mount screws). In drawing up the construction lines I scribed angles into the bar that correspond to DIN of 45* off axis for each mic. I place the mounts on the bar, place the mics in the mounts, and as a final check I look down and verify that the mic angles match the scribed lines, and I'm golden.
Anyway, it took under an hour from raw stock to flat black finished bar, and didn't cost a dime, 'cuz I already had the stock.

Just a thought.

Maybe I'll look into that.  I was thinking of getting solid plastic stock and drilling out the ends to accept/clasp the end of the active cable with the round cut at the 45 degree angle.

Do you have a picture of what you made?

Do you have a link?  Google gave nothing.  Even if it isn't available yet I'd like to see if they have something on their web page.

I don't recall for certain as it's been a while, but I think you're right - it's not quite wide enough for o-fficial DIN.
