Title: DAT drives
Post by: tchoub on May 03, 2004, 04:55:19 PM
Hi,
I would like to buy a DAT drive for my PC in order to transfer my dat tapes.
I checked this web site : http://www.ncf.carleton.ca/~aa571/
and found some interesting stuff.

Unfortunately, I would need some more help from you !

[1] for those of you who use DAT drives to transfer their tapes : what model/brand do you own ?
[2]  was updating the firmware of your drive easy ?
[3] I'm using Windows XP : do those drives work well under msdos ?
[4] I also saw that some DAT drives were audio capable without having to update their firmware. Has anyone any info on those drives ? Is it what is called a DAT streamer ?

 I'm using Maxell HS-4/90s tapes.
[5] Do I have to use a specific drive ?
[6] Will a DAT streamer be able to read them ?

Thanks !

Here is another site you can check out.  http://www.xs4all.nl/~heemsker/fup/
From what i hear it's easy to flash the firmware.  I'm in the process of doing the same thing just waiting to find a cheap drive.
