Title: Question about heavy bass

I just recorded my 2nd show Sat night. It was a friend from works band which plays in a "southern rock" cover band. I was listening to the show yesterday and noticed that the bass guitar sounds a little
"boomy" at times. Here's the lowdown on equipment and how I set it up.
     Okatava mc012's(cards)>ua5>jb3 set up about 20ft from the stage
with DIN config. It looked liked I had decent levels, ua5 was clipping slighlt til I backed it off some. JB3 levels looked to be about 2 bars below the double bar indicator.

Would a lack of shockmounts have this much affect??? Should I have run the mics x/y?? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

running XY will definitely help you reduce the bass....

Nick...thanks, kind of what I was thinking but I was'nt sure how much not having shockmounts yet would affect this also.

shockmounts add about an average of 15-20db of noise that you dont want, bet its the shocks, personally

also, for the 480's at least, it seems xy brings the 'punch' up more, but a better, more redefined bass comes out of DIN, YMMV

Bean...thanks. I'll need to pick up a pair of shocks, I've been eyeing a pair of Shure a53m's. They look like a nice lowpro shock. I think the next time I tape I'll also try DIN for a set and then try x/y to see which sounds better to my ears.
