so yesterday i was hit by this new lsass worm virus.. i did all the things that microsoft said to do to get it off my system.. today i go to the library and try to fire up the laptop and it wont go past the load screen.

the only way it has gone past the load screen is in safe mode..

hey man i work for the helpdesk at our school and we were hit pretty hard by this worm, even i got it, and i have never gotten a worm/virus/trojan before.  i will PM you our detailed outline of different possible ways to get rid of the worm, including booting into safe mode.

i found out the best way to temporarily disable the worm is to do the following.
1. boot into safe mode, press ctrl+alt+delete and end the "avserve2.exe" process.
2.  go into c:/windows and find the "avserve2.exe" file and delete it.
3.  goto start > run > msconfig.  goto the startup tab and uncheck the "avserve2" box.

this is only a temporary solution.  it disables the worm from running so you can hopefully boot normally and then get mcafee stinger or norton or the windows update fix to zap the worm completely.  also check the registry afterwards to make sure it is gone.

Nice one, considering OS10 is *nix based.   :P
