Im a lazy bastard and im at work, so if you see the answer to this, please just post me a link to it or tell me briefly without any shit kthx =)
I recently aquired a show recorded on a JB3 and the whole show is just loaded with skips. The kinda skips you'd find on a MiniDisc reording if you bump into it real hard while recording, or if your Disc is defective. I was wondering what could cause that? Hard Drive Problem? I think it may be it because the taper taped another show, and it basically froze on him during half the show, but no skips.
This show in question has skips everywhere, except the slient parts which leads me to believe he was probably moshing or moving around or something to fuck up the hdd from recording. He said it could be that he raised the volume too loud, but i doubt it.
Any input so i can let him know what to do or what he's done wrong, is appreciated =)
Thanx

I've never encountered anything like this, and I've tested my jb3 in some not so ideal conditions...
Could this be clipping??? Thats what it sounds like to me.
A lineage mght help, if it is some stealth mics>batt box>jb3 then it is very east to clip.
Good luck ;)

He used the Sound Proffesionals Headphones with built in mic's and bass roll off.
It doesnt sound like clipping, cause ive clipped a vew shows on MiniDisc. It sounds like a scratched up cd..

That was going to be my guess... bad cd-r. So far I've had good luck w/ my JB3: No skips, no "hard drive spinning noises". Here's to keeping my fingers crossed.

Hmmm keep hearing about the beeping noise from the hd, but the only thing that I have ever noticed is that if I use my mini rig with the mics NEXT to the NJB3, I can hear the spin up/down of the hd. No other weird noises tho.
Visivox Broadcast Mics > SP-PREAMP > NJB3
(soon to be AT853 >SP-PREAMP > NJB3)

most times if the jb3 turns off, its because it got too hot. could it be possible that it was getting too hot during this recording too but just never shut off. maybe thats why there are skips. was he stealthing? might wanna try to get the jb3 more air. plus its writing to a hdd, if he's jumping around, its not gonna be good for business.

i dunno ed, when i did my initial recording tests w/ the jb3, i strapped my bookbag containing everything including my batts, jb3, v3 and anything else in there but mics/mic cables, and jumped up and down very vigorously and no noise is present on those tapes, but thats alo running digital in
that may be the answer, running digi in

wait a minute, that just made me think of something. it could be the mini plug problem. where it doesn't quite go in all the way. the nomad is notorious for that too. i've been there before, recorded a whole show and got like a total of 3 songs that were good enuf to listen too without a bunch of skips in it.
i bet he might have to "mod" his nomad a bit by grindind down the area around the line in, that will allow the mini plug to sit properly in the line in.

good call ed, thats prolly it, but ive never ran into that problem yet

the mini plug thing is fine with the battery module. i've only heard of issues with optical cables. i've recorded every show i've done for the past 10 months with the jb3 (probably 50 recordings or so) and have yet to have a single skip on any recording. i have been running at831 > sound pros batt box > jb3

FWIW i have had major problem w/ my opti in in the past and now my JB3 is covered in duct tape to correct the problem. i have lost 2 shows due to my input clipping out and 40+ minutes of silence due to poor cinnection on the opti in. I have done the Mod w/ the dremel tool but my problems are related to pusshing up on the cable and loosing signal. just used it tonight w/ the duct tape holding it down and had ZERO problems.
