Upgrade bug has been bitting me! Where do you think I would get the best upgrade?
Current rig:
audix micros m1290-hc
ps2
ad20
jb3
Now I've been open tapping more than I thought I would and want to improve that section of tapping while keeping my stealth ability.
Should I:
1 Get another pair of mics, maybe akg 480's
2 get a new adc and keep the mics
3 sell the micros and move way up to shoeps or dpa (wait for used)
considering laying down some cash 1000-2000 just don't want to get something thats not going to greatly increase the quality of my tapes.
thanks for the help,
Matt

FWIW matt, the 480>ps2>ad20 tapes i have seriously smoke, they sound really nice together
your bvest improvement is gonna be mics, but the tapes you sent me are really nice tho, i believe the micros are micro 480's in most ways, FWIW, they sound very similar to my ears the few times ive heard them
i dunno, maybe try running a mme or v3 w/ them too, maybe a psp3 or something
i take it you want to stay 16 bit right???
i bet some micros>148 would sound good too

Thanks bean, that makes me feel better. I don't have alot to compare them to and to hear you say they sound really good compared to others is a relief. Any one else?

if changing your sound is what you want then new mics are the best way to go. Can't go wrong with 480's, DPA's or Schoeps.....

I agree, when upgrading I would always suggest mics first, followed by preamp, then AD converter.

How much did those audix's run?
Are you thinkin of sellin them when you upgrade the mics?
