....man, I suck at the search function. Does the Audigy SoundBlaster resample incoming data when it's coming in via firewire (like, from say, a JB3)?
If so, how bad is it? Something recorded 20 bit would come out....how?

good question

hey! I'm honestly curious(maybe you weren't being sarcastic...if so I'll smootch you :-*). I always though it was just with the SPDIF-in that stuff got resampled.
-
i'm almost positive that anything being transferred via firewire, usb, or cat 5/ethernet isn't resampled.
i'm also pretty sure only spdif and optical digital connections are the only things that can be resampled when they're transferred. i could be wrong tho.

I'm not sure I understand the question. You mean transmitting audio from a device to the SB over firewire, which then goes to the computer? Why not just skip the SB and use the firewire port on the PC?
Or did I completely misunderstand? ???

my audigy soundcard has a firewire port on it. i'm guessing thats why he's asking the question.
-
You got it ed. That's why I'm asking.

Yeah, but this isn't an audio input, it's a data connection, right?
-
correct. So, I'm hearing that it's a bit-perfect transfer (which makes me a bit happier, since I won't need to change soundcards until I pay my SBM-1 off)....
-
But if you're going over firewire it's just a data transfer. You can't resample data...
-
;D well, see....that's a good thing. I'm glad for that. Yeah for data transfer... :afro:
-
I dunno why that confused me so much, but it did. Only audio is resampled, it's just a straight copy of data.
-
I thought if you were going DAT > 7pin/coax > SB > PC it would be resampled. SPDIF is just data but its getting resampled. Am I missing the boat?

In my case, you are. I'd be going JB3->Firewire.
