every time i try to extract anything off CD (using eac) I get clicks and pops.
lovely.
my CDR hasn't ever extracted anything decent, i've always had a problem with it.
generic cd drive.
should i just go buy a new cd drive for playing/extraction? cdr works great for burning.
(was trying to extract my 9.24.02 Springsteen and the pops sound like ass.)

Buy a new cd drive, at $10-15 bucks, you can get a run of the mill one that won't give you any trouble. Try pricegrabber.com or bensbargains.net for a good deal on one, they pop up every day...

get a plextor drive.

don't need another CDr, but I had a plextor that crapped out after 2 months.. bought my yamaha and it works.
or does plextor make straight cd drives and i'm missing the boat somewhere?
-
Plextor makes straight CD drives too, but I'm amazed you had one that crapped out? I've always bought plextors for my various systems over the years and never had one complaint.
And after 2 months no less, I would think it would have been under full warranty, they should have replaced it for free.

They did, but by that time I already had bought the Yamaha so i sold the plextor to my friend who was building a fucking insane computer... he burns about 20 discs a day.

I had a plextor (w24/10/40a)die 3 months after the Warranty and they sent me a new one no ? asked,
I would buy again for sure.
