Is a pultec style EQ any good at bringing out clarity in the bass frequencies on two track live recordings. Lately I've become disappointed in my recordings.
You have any sample recordings of what your not liking.
In very, very general terms I have found that bringing down the 100-150 Hz range can make the bass clearer by getting rid of some of the mud that often seems to live in that frequency range.
I have some hardware Pultec type eq's, and don't think I've ever used them for live recording bass tweaks. They sorta do the opposite of what I usually want. With bass they do a certain boost thing that's recognized for close mic studio recording. They are great for presence or intelligibility boosts.
Thanks for the input. I'll refrain from buying a pultec. I do have a parametric eq, I'l try cutting the 100-150 Hz per Heathen's suggestions.
