Panasonic DVD-F85K. Pretty good for $130. May be discontinued, but its not too old so stores might still have it in stock but discounted.

pioneer 563- dvd-a & sacd for $170 Best Buy

Careful of the Panasonics. Some of them only have 2ch outputs for DVD-A. I have the Pioneer, it doesn't claim to Play DVD+Rs but it does occasionally.

The compatibility problem has something to do with it not being able to play certain commercial DVD-A's that were mastered with a specific type of software.
FYI, there are several <$200 "universal" players set to be released in the next few months. Toshiba & Samsung come to mind, not sure what else...

I think I've said this before but, over at the Asylum they've been raving about the CD playback ability of the ~$60 Toshiba 3950/3960. So much in fact that I picked one up on sale at Best Buy. I've gotta agree with all the fluffing, thing really does sound phenomenal on Redbook CD's. Does a great job of DVD's too! If you want DVD-A, go to the Toshiba 4900 (I think about $100). These things have 24/192 dac's in them and have super quiet transports ta boot. Plus, if you're so inclined, there are mods. galore that can be done with them, from simple power supply upgrades, to OPAmp replacements, dampening chasis, etc. Head over to the digital asylum on AA and check it out. Take it easy - Matt
