Today my sonic record now stopped working. It tells me that I need to reinstall the program. The best I can figure it came on my dell and I don't have a disc to reinstall it. I tried to install an old version of adapdec ez ed but that won't work with xp. At this point I am looking for some free cd burning software that will work with xp. Help me out boys.
Thanks,
Ed

Feurio is a great, free program, check out http://www.etree.org/feurio.html for more info

I like Exact Audio Copy for burning...
-
hands down nero 6.3.1.6.
the best burner program ive used and ive used 3-4 at least!!
PM me for details on how to acquire it!!

It's actually not totally free, but it is really great for organizing and burning. I have used it for two years and love it. I think registration is in the $20 range, and the trial version is totally unrestricted.

PS I don't know if Nero is "hands down" the best, but if this guy has used three whole programs, he must know.... ::)
just kidding, bean-o.

Feurio is free. they ask for a donation, but you dont have to.
the trial is unrestricted with no time limits.
I agree with Bean in that Nero is the best there is(pc, mac or linux).

OK. Two votes for Nero, cool. I'll rethink my position.
Feurio, though, is not free just because the trial is unrestricted. It is billed as shareware, not freeware.
($29 is not a major investment for a program this cool, so i encourage anyone to actually register their copy. It's also not a donation, but an actual registration price.)
Don't be a wook.

hehe, its all good jimmy
seriously tho, ive used ez cd creator(JUNK-sorry goo)
HP record now(great program but my dumbass accidentally wiped it off my comp)
then nero- i can easily burn audio/data while surfing on the net, plus, all the data verifies beautifully, also, i can do MANY burns in a row, something most programs cant do that well
-
I use EAC for audio, Nero 6.something for data. I hate Nero for audio as I always forget to remove the damn 2-second tracks between songs.

me too. i've got a 50-spindle of CDs with gaps from doing that... this year.
funny thing is my wife is trained to remove them and hasn't made a single coaster..... i guess since she learned that was a step in the process, and never burns data or video, it comes naturally to her...
-
yeah, i always remember to make sure its on NO 2 sec gaps, but im anal like taht!!
i wish it recognized that shit!!
-
ive used nero for the past 4 years, its only 50 bucks and the best burning software out there, you can burn anything with it
-
I also agree...Nero rules. It's easy to use and cheap.
-
At work I use Nero and give it an enthusiastic THUMBS UP!
At home I still use CDRwin from http://www.goldenhawk.com It has served me well for many years although it took a while to get used to the interface.

Brian, for audio with Nero use the Nero Express button. There is a little radio button/check box that will remove all the gaps every time.
Yeah, I've heard this before, but haven't explored it as I'm so happy with EAC. I vaguely recall having to go through a dumbass wizard using the Express button. Hmmmm...perhaps time to check it out again...thanks!
-
FWIW tho, i always multitask my comp usually, and nero is FLAWLESS on data discs since it does a real verification, but alot of my audio discs have maybe ONE hiccup!!

I'm in the market for new burning software myself (though it doesn't have to be free)...checked the Feurio linked above, but it doesn't say if it supports XP. Anyone know?
I'm intertested in comparison opinions about Nero 6.3 and Easy Media Creator 7...or any others that you think are decent.
Thanks.

Just get nero -- it works great for both data and audio cds (as mentioned above, be sure to burn audio cds using nero express as this makes it WAY easy to remove the 2 second gaps). Also, if you install mike wren's flac frontend after installing Nero, you'll be able to burn audio cds directly from flac files -- this has worked flawlessly for me under windows xp using both my old p2-400 and my new p4-2.8ghz. Although there is also a shn>audio cd plugin for nero, I don't recommend it as runnning it seems to choke my pc.
I've stayed as far away from ezcd-creator's products since they required me to reinstall windows xp a few years ago.

...Kk, who has had his fair share of TAO's with Nero.
Edit: consider this my recommendation for NERO too!
the 1 problem I have with Nero Express is that it will switch the track order occasionally, or rather, the track listing is not in the same order as when you drag the files into its window

feurio works just fine w/ xp.
although a lot of people love nero, i wouldn't use it if it was free. the couple times i used it (at a friends) when my computer was down, had several coasters.
veritis(hp?) record now has been grate. i'm finally starting to like it. 3 coasters(in a row, switched discs and no problems) out of 100's of data burns. it does the verification thing too.
-
I use Nero as well...and I'm very happy with it for the same reasons other have listed. But I'm a newbie....so don't pay much attention to this post.

There is always good 'ol CDRecord ;)
http://www.fokus.gmd.de/research/cc/glone/employees/joerg.schilling/private/cdrecord.html
. . .although it is command line / DOS prompt only.

one more vote for Nero. as stated it sucks that there is no DAO default but it is so automatic to me to highlight> right click> properties>0 that I never make a disc with gaps. and as stated it's very easy with express to get rid of the gaps. I only use express for vcds though. lets you make menu with pictures etc. oh and if I'm not mistaken Feurio only burns audio and not data.

Nero's good but has way to much other junk with it for my tastes. Prefer the no frills freeware Burn @ once: http://www.burnatonce.com/cgi-bin/ShotGun/ShotGun.cgi?ammo=burnatonce . Burns CD/DVD & can decode flac files.
