Title: Marantz PMD670
Post by: spcyrfc on June 03, 2004, 06:07:36 PM
I am on the verge of buying this unit, but i cannot find any posts concerning it in the tapers section.
Is the pmd670 worthwhile?
Would having a 20gb iriver or something along those lines be functional for downloading info from the pmd on the fly?

please help - i feel somewhat lost in this recording world and am looking for a place to get a grip

LIke so many situations, the answer is, "It depends."  Are you planning to record via mics, or via line-in from some outboard pre-amp, or direct from the concert PA system?

I've found the PMD670 to be a great alternative to cassette tape, DAT, and minidisc for nature recording using a Telinga mic and parabola.  It's reliable in severe tropical conditions, and the results sound great.

That said, I'm very interested in the Fostex FR-2 (with Oade mods, perhaps) and in the Sound Devices 722 (if it ever ships).

hi.  I have thought about that Marantz  unit alot and would love to get it if I could get a couple cheap 5gb HD, but I think you need a computer or laptop to transfer.
I know my Iriver HP 120 isn't an active USB so it only DLs from a computer.
edit: get a JB3 (my 2c.)

I am planning to record via mics and for the time being using the onboard pre-amp.  will this allow quality taping of shows?
