A changed .txt or md5 file is the usual culprit when it does that 99.9% stuff.
http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=5086
Since you aren't at 100% it isn't going to show you as a seed there.
-
Is this the show Trey was talking about on Charlie Rose?
-
I am having a problem trying to use BT to seed a show for the first time - if anyone can lend some insight I would appreciate it.
TorrentSpy will not load on my computer due to a runtime error 216. I do not know what software conflict is causing it - or if that is the cause.
I have BTeasy, but when I select a file and "torrent this with BTeasy," the box that pops up for me to enter the announce address to create the torrent has the "create the torrent" box greyed out and I cannot do anything to make it active.
Any help or insight is much appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip, but no luck. I deleted, restarted the computer, re-downloaded, and same message when I try to execute:
"TorrentSpy MetaInfo Viewer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." It then shows a 216 error when I close that box.
???

So I finally joined the 21st Century and got high speed via a cable modem.
Of couse I want to use it for Bit Torrent.
I'm also a bit of an old guy, so be patient with my newbie questions...
I went to bt.etree.org and got the Bit Tornado app.
I installed it and am currently in the process of downloading Todd_R's 06-16-2004 Dead source.
I don't understand how this thing works very well.
Share rating? What;'s that?
If I stop downloading, how can I resume?
What's the deal with upload speed?
I just don't have a clue ???

Share Rating = How much Raw Data you have uploaded vs. what you have downloaded
If you close the window, you can reopen it by clicking on the torrent download link at bt.etree or cotapers.org or wherever. Then specify the same directory path as you did before. A folder should already be there of course, saying dead2004-06-16.flac16 or somethign similar
Upload speed is how much data you are sending out to people. What makes BT great is that you can share the show or torrent with other people without the entire download being completed. Supposedly, your upload rate is proportional to your download rate. I find this to be utter bullshit because my upload speed are always faster than my download, but I think that's because I'm behind a permanent firewall.

I'm not uploading anything.
Is there a better (easier to understand) Bit Torrent App than Bit Tornado?
Are there any setting I need to change to make it go faster?

If you are behind a firewall, you'll need to open up ports 6881 to 6999 for BT to work properly. LMK if you need some help with that.

the original client is here
http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/FAQ.html
also, the FAQ is good to read, I'll try to get the link to explain firewalling

I'm using a cable modem and a D-Link DI-604 Ethernet Broadband Router.
I also have the free version of Zone Alarm.

If you log onto your router, there should be an option for Port Triggering. Click on that and open up ports 6881-6999.
I have no idea what Zone Alarm does so I dunno if you need to do anything there.
-
no shouldn't have to do anything with zone alarm other than allow bt to connect to the internet and act as a server.

Calico, some background on BT to begin with. It is a "piggy backing system" meaning that you'll share with other users whatever you've already downloaded. That is the uploading you'll see, it's simply that another person who is on the torrent is farther behind then you and is grabbing some of what you've already downloaded.
Share rating? What;'s that?
This is a ratio of how much you've downloaded versus how much you've uploaded to other users. As you download a torrent a smaller portion is also being uploaded to other users, in general people consider it very nice if you let your torrent run until the share ratio is 2:1 3:1 in terms of uploads:downloads, meaning that even though you've downloaded the whole show you leave your window open so that others may download it off of you.
What's the deal with upload speed?
Depending on your connection you can fine tune this so it doesn't make your system unusable. At default it will use as much of your upload bandwidth as it can get, making web surfing/etc a real pain, I usually leave it at around 15k-20k as I have a 40k max upstream.
Gladly walk you through whatever I can Chuck, just post here...
Zone Alarm won't have any issues provided you clicked "Yes" for it to run previously.

Thanks everybody :)

I just found out that Zone Alarm isn't allowing file sharing between my computers on my home network.
I have the free verson and can't find a way to fix it. Is there a better free software firewall or dose anyone know how to get Zone Alarm to allow file sharing on my network?
