well, a new day, a new problem preventing my 24/96 success :(
this time I get the message "Buffer not filled with valid data" about 50 minutes into the set, stopping the recording. I restarted recording and got the next 20min before setbreak without incident. Then it happened 2 more times in the second set. after the second time it happened I switched the setting to record 48kHz, and no problems the rest of the way through.
any ideas here? I'm truly baffled and about to give up on doing 24/96 altogether as it is making my efforts worthless :'(

what machine? how much ram? what os? what interface? what's the buffer set at?
-
While we're asking questions, how about what version of spark are you running?
-
sorry for not posting the info in the original post; i've been asking so many questions lately for some reason I figured people were familiar w/ my setup
machine: Ibook G4
ram: maxed out
os: 10.3.3
interface: Firewire 410(driver build 1054)
buffer: i have no idea, how do you check this??
spark XL version 2.82 build 274

So, by maxed out, you mean 1.2 gigs of ram?
And I had this problem once at a show with almost the exact same setup. Increasing the buffer size in Spark prefs fixed the issue for me.

No, 640 MB Ram, that was the maximum when I bought it back in January....the ones that go up to 1.256GB seem to be newer models I think??
I can't seem to find this buffer size setting though in the Preferences...

Nah, not the newer models. You just need a 1gb DIMM.
And the buffer size pref is in the I/O tab IIRC.

in the recording window, go to the "setup" button under the word "device". change the latency to somethign high, like 1024 or something
it may be the 410 though. i have had horrible experiences with m-audio gear

640 MB is the stock max RAm. Bust as John noted, you can get 1 GB DIMMs for the g4 iBooks. I pla on getting mine up there soon.

Well thanks again for the help everyone. I'll give the increased latency a shot. I really hope its not the 410 causing me trouble
hmmm...I'd like to increase the RAM to up over 1gig, but I'm kinda wary about taking the Ibook apart :-\

It's very easy. The two little tabs on the keyboardnext to the esc and f12 keys lift the keyboard off. Then under a heat shield is the ram. Nothing real major to it. It is outlined in your book that came with the iBook when you got it. I investigated it when the guy at the apple store told me (after I asked). I've seen some places selling the higher sticks somewhere.
