I have a bunch of 1982-1983 GD uncirculated aud masters recorded with JVC Super ANRS. Does anyone have a Super ANRS deck or decoding unit??
-
Wow I never heard of ANRS before!
JVC made a portable, all right, and it's cool looking!
None of the ANRS decks seem to sell for all that much, considering age and obscurity!?

The KD-1636 was the portable, ran off batteries, A/C or DC, and there are a bunch of home format models with A/C only.

I hope you figure out something easy, like someone here has one in good shape! Otherwise, Ebay's got one with a "warranty" for under $300.

There’s quite a few available on eBay but I just can’t spend $300 so I could transfer someone else’s masters, I assume skip it at that point. There’s also an outboard Super ANRS / Dolby decoder too. I transferred one shows without any NR decoding and it didn’t sound right. I was hoping that a PEQ would do the job but it’s not the result I was hoping for. Hopefully someone has a working deck.

Looks like I found a cassette deck with Super ANRS, I’m all set!! Hopefully someday I’ll find a JVC NR-50 so I can play the tapes on my Nak CR-7A

This thread on Tapeheads discussed the ANRS and Super ANRS systems and the last few posts specifically talk about the NR-50.
One big problem is that super anrs only appeared on some jvc decks and I’m not not knocking them, but they were not totl decks.
So, you might be comparing a recording made on 2 head deck with sanrs to recording made on a three head totl deck with full calibration , but recorded with Dolby c.
I have used my nr-50 boxes with my luxman k-03 and hk 491. Remember that the nr-50 also has Dolby c and I’ve used it too.
My opinion is that it sounds better than Dolby c. However, unless you have one of these rare boxes hooked up to your Revox , nak , etc , it really is meaningless.

Christiaan Marcum sent me his JVC KD-A55 cassette deck so I should be ok. Hopefully the deck works well enough to transfer these tapes.

glad you found a deck. If it needs repairs or refurbishes, or if you need advice about specific model/brand issues, tapeheads is a great place for it.
I found these two with a brief google search.

There *has* to be a library of filters that model dbx, SNRS, Dolby (all flavors) somewhere.
The curves were published and "open source", just difficult to model in analog.
With that said, there's a filter for guitar that models the Wall of Sound JBL E140's top-crackle.
When I heard that, it was one of the first times I wished I could play guitar in decades...

Found one link, there's a Mac version, too. Don't think JVC is covered...

I use DDi Codec for Dolby tapes, it works great and allows you to add or remove any amount of Dolby in post. They have one for dbx too.

Chen said there is vitually no hope for a filter for Super ANRS, due to minimal demand and very limited published technical specifications.
