Howdy all
I tried to find "team mix-pre 10 II" as a thread, but could not, so i apologize if I am in the wrong place.
Sound Devices has just announced a new firmware update, 9.02 that covers the Mix-Pre 10 II
all they say on the website at
https://www.sounddevices.com/download/
is that there is a 'version update in the factory settings' which meant nothing to me.
So i called them, and as usual was very quickly referred to a friendly helpful human being, who told me that there were some new parts and the firmware had been updated to be in compliance. I was told that it was not necessary or useful for me to update from my current V9.01 to the new version, since there was no change in features or operation.
I hope that info is useful to anyone encountering the news of the new firmware.
If they get enough phone calls maybe they will add something to the online page.
I also confirmed that the flat fee for repair of old stuff like my MP-2 (still working great after 20+ years) and other discontinued items is indeed $795.
also of interest -- I mentioned that I was glad to see such helpful and immediate phone contact continuing, and that some folks had been a bit worried about the effect of the buy out by Audionix and the retirement of John Tatooles on service and policies. I was told that there were several original cofounders, and that the original CEO, Matt Anderson, is still the CEO.

Someone posted (on Gearspace, under a quote of my taperssection post) that they had been told to 'update no matter how old your MP10II is' so I called SD again.
I was told that a main purpose of the update in the firmware is to deal with an occasional glitch in the OLED screen, with flickering on the right side. I have an OLED screen unit (the rounded corners screen) but have had no problems. But i was advised 'it would be a good idea' to update anyway. I was told there have been no problems reported with the update, so i downloaded and installed it, and am using the unit as a USB interface as I write this. I mentioned my previous conversation about updating, and the recent post of advice to update, and suggested they might put a bit more info on the website about the update, and the engineer seemed open to that.
I also asked if it might be good to use the lowest useful level of brightness for the OLED to extend its lifetime, and was told that they had no failures so far, but that was also probably a reasonable and possibly useful thing to do.
