Title: Question about saving 32 bit files in Audacity
Post by: tim in jersey on September 08, 2024, 10:15:47 PM
For some reason this has never dawned on me until tonight. I dragged my 32 bit 4 track recording from my MP-6 ii into Audacity, processed, mixed down to 2 channel stereo.

When I save the file I can save as either "Signed 32 bit PCM" or "32 bit float". From there I render to 24 bit for distribution. I save the raw 32 bit masters too, of course.

Up until now I've been saving as Signed 32 bit PCM, but my gut is telling me I should probably be saving it as 32 bit float.

Is there a best practice as to which encoding I should be using?
