Title: Blu-ray Ripping Help
Post by: gormenghast on November 18, 2024, 12:32:08 PM
I have a blu-ray I’d like to extract the audio from.  Tears For Fears recent blu-ray release.   I’ve done many dvds and CDs with my Apple SuperDrive and MacBook Airs.  What external drive would you recommend to get the right contents extracted, and I’m assuming Audacity will suffice for tracking and flac’ing.  I’m not sure but I’m thinking the audio is 24/96, but could be 24/48.  I’ve read I should use makemkv to extract the audio—I’ve use makemkv and handbrake for my dvds.

Thank you.

Thank you for the link.

I wonder if this is available for download somewhere.  Lot of work/cost to rip one blu-ray disk.

I have makemkv and a compatible drive, but haven't used either in over a year.  If you want to send it to me, I can rip and return

Open the Blu-ray on a computer and look at the folders/files.  In the folder titled "BDMV," is the sub-folder "STREAM."  Inside the "STREAM" folder are three files:  00000.m2ts, 00001.m2ts, and 00002.m2ts.

All of the video and audio are in the "00001.m2ts."  There are many programs out there that can rip the audio from the 00001.m2ts file.

My only computers are MBA’s.  I tried the super drive but the disk wasn’t recognized.

It took me a few minutes to find the meaning of "MBA," as 99.9% of the references are to the college degree version of the acronym.  :banging head:  :)

I just googled "rip audio from blu-ray with a MacBook Air" and it appears there are lots of ways of doing it.

Indeed. The SuperDrive only supports CDs and DVDs, sadly.

+1 for MakeMKV as well.  You'll want to either have somebody copy the file into an ISO who has a blu-ray reader or you'll need to pick up an external blu-ray reader (I use one with my laptop for this exact purpose).   Would love to hear the SDE disc (if that's the one you're referencing).   I'm kinda broke on that front this year having already picked up about 7 or 8 titles.
