Title: Panasonic ZS99
Post by: bhoy on December 16, 2024, 08:48:27 PM
Can anyone comment on the new Panasonic ZS99?

Is this a step down quality-wise from the ZS100?  Seems like it is cheaper than the ZS100 was.

Its not an upgrade over the zs100.
Its an upgrade over the TZ95.

The zs100 has a 1 inch lens.
This one does not.
The zs100 has 12x zoom, this one has 30x.

The zs100 has a non movable touchscreen, this is moveable.

Apart from the lower lens quality, this could be a nice device for filming shows. The moveable screen and the 30x zoom is nice!

I just checked the specs, and saw this:

Recording Limit: Up to 30 Minutes

Unless there's a way to hack the recording limit like there is for the ZS100; I, somewhat regrettably, will probably take a pass on this.  I'd love that extra zoom too.  Dammit~!!

Although 30 minutes is not that bad, I agree.
It's extra moments of stress during stealth.

Recording Limit: Up to 30 Minutes

Where did you see that?

I found this info on the official Panasonic site:

"Unlimited Video Performance: Reduce cases of overheating; shoot in 4K 30p with no time limitation**, slow-motion (4x) or quick-motion (8x) in FHD; create cinematic content with 12-stops of V-Log L."

I followed that link and while it does say, "no time limitation" it is also followed by two astericks.  I can't find any explanation for those astericks.

But to answer your question, I read this at B&H's website (about 2/3 the way down the webpage):

I just bought this cam and unfortunately the recording time is NOT unlimited.  It stops at 15 minutes in 4K, and 29 minutes in FHD, according to the manual.

Has anybody figured out a hack for it to remove the limit?  The guide for the ZS100/200 doesn't work on this since the buttons are different on the ZS99.

If I can't find a way to remove the limit, then I'm probably going to be returning this camera.
