Title: Replacement for CDWave ?
Post by: Gone Fishin' on April 01, 2025, 08:12:26 AM
I have been a huge fan of CDWave.
It is fast, accurate, and the author has been incredibly generous with its license.

The limit to 24/48 and WAV sometimes leaves me holding large files, or unable to save 8 hour festivals as FLAC.
Splitting isn't always an option, without strange and unreliable interventions.

What software options have the closest workflow to CD Wave for FLAC files?

Maybe I'm missing something here but doesn't CD wave have an option to save wave files production stuff as Flac?

Yes, saves mp3, FLAC doesn't process or open them
It's also topped at 24/48, I believe

I love the program, I just see my future in 24/96 FLAC, as storage and processing speeds have been ever expanding

I still use Traders Little Helper to convert from .wav to .flac. I have been told that is unnecessary these days as the current version of cdwaveditor no longer truncates bits when converting so it is supposedly AOK to use cdwave for that now.
As far as splitting large, lengthy files, how about using your DAW software, I use Audacity as I am cheap, but can't most DAW's do file splits?

What are strange and unreliable interventions ? What software are you using to split them?

I hate dealing with 96 files but cd wave handles them.
