Ok newbie Mac question... Can you transfer files from a Mac iBook > PC via a dsl/cable router?
or is there a better way?
Thanks!

yes you can

or from apple's support site:

or

and

(a little confusing, at least to me, but gives you the gist of smb)
i used to have a win98 laptop connected to my all mac network at home. i think i was using maclan on the pc which helped the pc connect to the macs through appletalk. good luck

Since I have an FTP server set up on my PC, I find PC <> Router <> iBook to be the easiest way to connect them. It's also probably the fastest...

I think that's what i'll do, unless Dustin sells me his picturebook, ;D but I guess I can still do that.
It nice to now that I don't have to buy a CD-Burner or DVD-Burner :)

No thanks, I don't have a ftp setup anyways so it might be just as easy to do that other way too.

Faster: PC <> crossover cable <> powerbook

Actually you don't even need the crossover cable, all portable macs have switching ethernet ports.
I've found it much faster to go through a router, though... I have no idea why.

Even my Pismo? This is news to me ...
I find that I'm about 3x faster w/ cable than w/ router.

Well maybe not your ancient Pismo. But all Dual USB iBooks and TiBooks and later do. ;)
