Title: Recording analog 3.5mm audio directly into iPhone 17 Pro
Post by: flysquirrel on October 15, 2025, 03:36:59 PM
Anyone have a successful experience with recording analog 3.5mm (1/8th inch) audio IN to an iPhone 17 Pro (or 16, or 15)?  I have a challenging stealth situation coming up and really need to keep the I/O between the line level output I need to record and the phone at an absolute minimum.  Anyone out there have proven success with this?  If not, what is the absolutely smallest form factor to get it done?

Thanks in advance!

The sound pros sapm-1 adapter will take 3.5mm to lightning, but it will send plug in power up the line

This setup has worked for me:

1. Hosa CMM-110 Stereo Interconnect, 3.5 mm TRS to Same (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000068O39) into
2. Saramonic SR-C2003 Female 3.5mm TRS to USB-C Stereo or Mono Microphone & Audio Adapter Cable (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DTP7R8M) into
3. Apogee Metarecorder

Thanks. I proactively ordered these things on Amazon hoping they would work.  Ill report back!

Thanks again for the Sarmonic recommendation.  When plugging in to an iPhone 17 Pro one must first answer the prompt that the accessory is NOT a headphone.  After that, the Shure Motiv app identified the USB C input as a stereo device, and the gain structure allows both line level and headphone amplifier level without distortion.  Perfect minimal solution for $17.  I opted for the one with the 3.5 male so I could plug directly into the source device without an additional cable or turnaround.  Link below for anyone else in a similar boat.
