Hi there,
Just looking for some advice - considering buying a Deity PR2 and DPA 4060 omni mini. The DPA website says "For wireless systems Min. 5 V - max. 10 V through DPA adapter." Not sure what this means, but the Deity does provide 5v power, so I think it should work? But I don't wanna dropp £££ on a setup without some assurance it works!
Additionally, you can get the DPA mics in minijack connectors - anyone know if these will plug into the Deity's 3.5mm outputs, or will I need an adaptor? If I need an adaptor I might as well get the microdot connection as it'll be compatible if I upgrade to the DPA d-vice (which would be my first choice but is double the cost of the Deity).

I have terminated my DPA 4060 and 4061 mics into 3.5mm jacks and use them with the 5v PIP of my Tascam FR-AV2. The 5v PIP of the Deity should work okay.

100% yes, you can power dpa microdot microphones with the PR2. Even the 40xxGR and xxGS cables.

Thanks! I presume you use Microdot - 3.5mm adaptors? I’m guessing they don’t add much extra size/make it harder to stealth? Never used any DPA mics so I’m unfamiliar with the connectors.

Yes there are threaded 1/8” to 2 microdot adapters on eBay, or you can commission someone to make one from dpa microdot extension cables

It should work, but with a couple of things to watch out for. The DPA 4060 can run on 5–10V, so the PR2’s 5V plugin power is within spec. The more important part is the connector wiring. DPA’s 3.5mm version isn’t always wired the same way as standard plug-in-power inputs, so depending on the exact model you may still need an adapter. That’s why many people go with the MicroDot version, it keeps your options open and you can use the correct MicroDot-to-3.5mm adapter for the PR2 now, and still upgrade to a d:vice later without replacing the mic.

PR-2 will power DPA 4060 just fine. The problem is at higher SPLs, well within the limits of the microphone, where the output of 4060 becomes too hot for the PR-2's input stage causing distortion. That combination has proven unable to handle typical concert PA bass/subwoofer content. DPA 4061 is a much better match to the PR2 and will not overload recorder as long as gain is set correctly in 24bit mode (or 32bit float mode is used).
The above was determined using stereo pairs of DPA 4060 and 4061, recording in 24 bit 2-channel mode on the PR2. I've not used a single 4060 into PR2 set to mono-only 32bit float mode. However I don't think changing mode to 32 bit mono will help, since it was the analog input stage of the PR-2 that was overloading, regardless of how low input gain on the PR2 was set.
Its quite unfortunate, a pair of DPA 4060 is what I initially hoped to use into the PR-2. In a pinch, the use of 4060 may be acceptable for recording spoken dialog or other things relatively low in SPL, but I'd not recommend it, especially for music recording.
