Title: soundboard patches?
Post by: dmaster on June 18, 2004, 03:32:58 PM
if I want to be prepared for all situations, what mix of cables and such would I need to be able to patch into most boards on a given night?

I've got a 7-pin cable, but I assume that those RCA connections aren't gonna work with a soundboard, right?  I tried it once and maybe I didn't know what I was doing or neither did he, but I didn't get a signal from the RCA outs from whatever monitor feed I was getting.

I'm going into my D8, and I'd like to be better prepared next time!

the 7pin is a digital cable and you were probably trying to pull an analog feed from the board.

If it will be the same board you can get a RCA > 1/8" stereo mini cable at Radio Shack, and run line-in on your d8.

if it's a different board, other possibilities of connections are XLR and 1/4" jacks, but these will also need to be terminated to the 1/8" stereo plug for the D8's line-in jack

I think all of this is spelled out pretty clearly in the FAQ :)

Check the Cables forum for a thread discussing cables and adapters useful for soundboard patching.  :)
