Title: Roland R-07 Internal Mics
Post by: TVTaper on January 19, 2026, 08:09:21 AM
Hi,
I have a Roland R-07. As this recorder is so small it is sometimes easier for me to take this recorder with me.
Any suggestions about using the internal mics?
What is the best setup?

perhaps stupid questions but I'm not sure.

Well, that depends on what you are recording.

24bit and 48khz is a god starting point. Keep gain well below clipping in the context of what you are recording.

I normally enable the limiters as they do more good than harm IMO.
If I set the gain correctly, then they will never engage. If I underestimated the sound levels, I find the limiter less offensive than the clipped sound. Win win.

You can enable a safety track if you feel unsure about setting the gain correctly.

I don't think the build in mics are good for very loud music.

Sorry for plugging, but by means of this piece of software you can turn your R-07 with its safety track feature into a 32bit floating point recorder: https://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=206443.0 (https://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=206443.0)
However, note that:

I would disagree on this point.  I've used mine several times (Brit Floyd twice and one I can't recall right now) by just putting it on a railing straight out from the stacks and the sound is pretty good.  It's not going to be up there with quality external mics but it'll do in a pinch.
