Title: cheap laptop considerations...
Post by: Nick's Picks on June 24, 2004, 07:08:21 AM
Hey now rockstars...
a few considerations for those of you looking to put together an inexpensive 24bit recording solutiion.

1. Toshiba 34xct serries, includding the 3440, 3480 and 3490 models.
all of which are around the 6-700mhz Pentium 3 class.  only expandable to 192mb or RAM is the downside.
big plus on the battery options (2nd battery is huge and will run this rig for close to 6 hours).  VERY CHEAP...often available on   eBay for $325.  You'll have to find the 2nd battery on your own, but its easily done and $100ish brand new.  Laptop is just over 3lbs w/o the 2nd battery.  Very small footprint.  vey thin.

2. Del lattitude (pentium 700), two hot swap bays for two batteries.  probably also found cheap on ebay and batteries are an easy score. Its big and heavy though...but rugged.
